Frederick Health Hospice Expands Services into Montgomery County, MD

Mar 12, 2024

Frederick Health Hospice is excited to announce that the Adventist HealthCare system in Montgomery County, Maryland, has selected them as their hospice of choice. Frederick Health Hospice will provide general in-patient level of hospice care to patients at Adventist HealthCare Shady Grove Medical Center and Adventist HealthCare White Oak Medical Center and support their discharged patients in the surrounding community with complete hospice services wherever they call home.

Services began at Shady Grove Medical Center on March 11, 2024, while services in support of patients at White Oak Medical Center will begin once implementation is completed at Shady Grove.

"Supporting patients at the end of their lives is one of the most important things a healthcare system can do,” said Neil Roy, MD, Chief Medical Officer of Shady Grove Medical Center. “As an emergency physician who frequently is with patients and their families during those precious moments, I can attest to the importance of having a robust hospice program. Hospice services at Shady Grove Medical Center will ensure our end-of-life patients have empathetic care from a multidisciplinary team to meet all their physical, mental, and spiritual needs."

A dedicated hospice care team will work out of Frederick Health Hospice’s satellite location in Montgomery County. Three hospice nurse navigators will have an onsite office at Shady Grove to serve patients. Also, Frederick Health Hospice nurse practitioners who are members of the Shady Grove medical staff will see hospice patients daily and manage their care, with support from Shady Grove nurses and a Frederick Health Hospice Medical Director will help oversee the program.

“We have served our Frederick community as a non-profit agency for more than four decades,” states Carlos Graveran, Executive Director of Frederick Health Hospice. “We were one of the earliest hospices formed in the U.S. and have been providing compassionate care for patients since before the Medicare Hospice Benefit was made permanent by Congress in 1986. From the very start, we have walked beside members of our community during their most difficult days. Now, we are humbled to be able to bring this same level of care to our neighbors in Montgomery County.”
