Through a Daughter's Eyes

Mar 21, 2018

Dear Hospice of Frederick County,

I was a broken record in the weeks preceding Mom’s admittance to Hospice. I knew if I could just hold on, Hospice would be there to make her comfortable and help me deal emotionally with her impending death, as well as to be strong for her.

Sure enough, within hours of the doctor approving her for Hospice, the social worker, and a nurse was at the house. A hospital bed and supplies made all the difference.

I felt as if I could breathe for the first time in months. I knew she was getting worse, and it was getting beyond my ability to help her

Thank you for not just addressing Mom’s physical needs, but my emotional ones as well.

Thank you for coming in and quickly and efficiently preparing me to care for Mom’s needs in her final days, hours, and minutes.

Thank you for preparing me to reach deep down inside of myself to do the hard thing and be a hands-on caregiver to the very end.

Thank you for making those times a little easier by allowing us to share them with you.

Thank you for being willing to be there during some of the toughest times in our lives.

It is a wonderfully rewarding memory I will always carry with me. I said my goodbyes. Nothing was left unsaid.

God bless Hospice. What you do matters.
